These assembly instructions are for the DIY laser-cut book nook available on my Etsy shop—Random Making. One of the big differences between Etsy and Amazon is Etsy items are handmade by people for people. I may refine or tweak elements to the book nook design based on feedback so some small deviations may occur between what the video shows and what you are assembling. However, general construction is pretty straightforward once you get the hang of the overall design.

Step 01:

In the video at the top of the page, I’ll cover the basic nook construction. This includes the back panel with door, side and base. An important early consideration will be to determine which sides you can assemble and how much access will be needed to the interior to create your nook. I generally leave one side off to allow for plenty of access to the interior. If I am installing LED lighting in the top, I leave the top off as well but may install the LED holder.

Step 02:

A feature of this book nook design is the recessed space in the back for batteries and electronics. I’m terrible at remembering to provide space for all of these things and have built this into the design. Cutouts along the sides, top, and bottom provide space to run wiring into the nook without the need for drilling. Any openings can be covered with your wall materials. This component also plays an important role in reinforcing the overall construction and squaring up the nook.

Step 03:

This video covers gluing up the face frame of the book nook. Like all components of the case, the face not only finishes the front of the nook but provides support and structure.

Keep watching this space!

If you purchased one of my nooks, THANK YOU! I hope you find it’s a good way to jumpstart your book nook projects. Not everyone has access to table saws and laser cutters. I want you to be able to get right into the creation of your magical miniature worlds by providing you with a well designed box.

Creating is an evolution and a collaboration. If you have any ideas you want to share on how to improve this design or if you’re looking for more features or even something custom, please reach out!

Cheers!
